Just minutes after finishing writing about
Nyko's rolling out some extra accessories for the
Xbox 360 Elite, I stumbled upon this piece of news. It seems that more and more Xboxers have to deal with overheating machines. But the company isn't sitting there and waiting anymore. They're taking
machines back to implement extra cooling hardware. Wait, does Microsoft want gamers to do this with them, or Nyko. I'm confused.
Up until recently,
Microsoft just couldn't pull their act together when it came to the Xbox 360. Many units scratched discs, they died on patch installation and now they overheat all of the sudden. Luckily for 360 gamers, as Maxconsole.net reports via Engadget, they can now send their 360s back for service, and see them returned with some new heat sinks. Check out the pictures on the left (click to enlarge).
So, who are gamers supposed to turn to? I mean, Nyko couldn't have started manufacturing an external cooling system, designed specifically for the Xbox 360, without Microsoft's consent, right? "Third-party" means that there is some sort of agreement there, it's not just entirely up to Nyko to do whatever they want for the 360. So, if Microsoft tells gamers to send the overheating machines back, to be pimped out (for free I presume), not to mention that they're adding cooling parts internally, why would anyone rush and get Nyko's external cooling system?
Not that it doesn't look slick and all, but it just doesn't make any sense. First of all, gamers will always trust the first party better, and second of all, Nyko's cooler hangs outside the system, so give them one good reason to buy Nyko's. No really, try and fill up the comments column with reasons as to why 360 owners should go for Nyko's product and not Microsoft's solution or for keeping the 360 a "cool" system.
