With the advent of pico projectors, more and more manufacturers have started to incorporate such devices into their products, cameras and camcorders being the first to step into this world, however Micron thinks there's even more room for improvement so it launched its new V100 LCOS solution that should enable manufacturers to include projectors in even more gadgets such as phones or even toys.

What makes Micron's solution so special is its minute size since, at 33×31×12mm, this thing is so small that it can fit is most gadgets available out there, so we won't have to carry a pico projector around with us if we want to share our memories with loved ones or friends.

Apart from its compact 8.5cc size, this thing also comes with a low 1.5W power consumption as well as an integrated image engine that takes care of all the processing needed in order to project images without taxing your phone's CPU.

That would most certainly reduce the projector's impact on the battery life of your device, although I am sure the V100 LCOS will still be one of the most power hungry components inside your phone.

And that is not all, since its compact size has forced Micron to hamper, to some extent, the specs of the device, the V100 LCOS coming with a rather small 320x240 resolution as well as 5 lumens of brightness.

However, Micron says this new projector is using its own HPX (hexagonal pixel multiplication) technology, that should increase the number of pixel per inch with about 20% compared to traditional square pixels devices, leading to much smoother diagonal lines.

Finally, Micron is saying the V100 LCOS will begin sampling next month and should enter mass production by this years end, the Boise, Idaho based company stating that production costs should come under $30 US, so this may end up in a smartphone near you in the not so distant future.
