Dual-boot machines seem to be in the spotlight, as of late. More and more companies seem to think customers would enjoy having the possibility to switch between Android and Windows 8 within seconds, but consumers' opinions are mixed.

ASUS has just pulled the veil of its 4-in-1 machine hybrid/tablet laptop, but if for some reason you’re not a fan of their products, you could look somewhere else.

Indian manufacturer Micromax has revealed its take on dual-booting tablets at CES this year, by introducing the Canvas LapTab, the company’s first dual-boot Android and Windows 8.1 tablet.

Last week, Micromax hasn’t said anything about how it plans to price the product, but now PTI brings news that the mystery has been lifted and the LapTap will become available for purchase for under $500 / €366. Customers can expect to see the dual-booting device somewhere in Q1 of 2014.

For those who haven’t read our CES coverage, the Canvas LapTap has a 10.1-inch IPS touch-screen display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

Power is granted by a 1.46GHz Intel Celeron N2805 processor (part of the Bay Trail-M platform) fitted with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (expandable up to 64GB via the microSD card).

ASUS offering allows you to switch between Windows and Android in 4 seconds, but so far we don’t know how fast the Micromax product can do the same.

Anyway, the Laptap also comes with a detachable keyboard that houses an HDMI port, one USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports. Micromax has also added a 2MP frontal camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and quite a hefty battery (7400 mAh) which should allow users to use the device for an extended period of time, without having to pop in for an energy refill.

While the device has decent features, analysts seem to believe the product’s main selling point is not the specs, but the dual OS system.
