It’s no surprise that Micromax will eventually launch Windows Phone handsets in India, but we had no idea that the company planned to release at least one high-end smartphone powered by Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

Microsoft has announced earlier this year that it will offer a Windows Phone license for free to all its partners with the condition that they launch devices powered by this mobile platform in the coming months.

Lots of Indian and Chinese OEMs agreed to this and are now expected to launch Windows Phone handsets in their countries. Unfortunately for Windows Phone fans, there are still a few months to wait until some of these handset makers announce their first devices.

One of the Indian OEMs that have confirmed that they will release at least one Windows Phone handset this year is Micromax. One of the most popular handset makers in India, Micromax plans to debut a high-end Windows Phone handset in the next couple of months.

According to @LeaksterInc, the same person that leaked details on the Motorola Moto E before it got official in India, Micromax’s first Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm chipset.

Moreover, the smartphone will have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which will be complemented by no less than 2GB of RAM.

On the inside, Micromax’s Windows Phone 8.1 device will be equipped with 16GB of storage, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 64GB via microSD memory card.

Another strong point of the device would be the stunning 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that is said to support full HD (1080p) resolution.

The smartphone will also boast an impressive 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a no less impressive 5-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and selfies.

One last thing leaked by the cited source is the fact that the Windows Phone handset will be powered by a 2600 mAh battery, which is likely to be removable.

No other details on the phone’s specs have been leaked in the tweet, but @LeaksterInc also claims that the handset will go on sale in India sometime in July.

Furthermore, Windows Phone fans should be able to purchase Micromax’s flagship smartphone for under Rs 25,000 outright, which is about $425 or €310. As always, we recommend our readers to take these details with a grain of salt until Micromax comes forward with an official statement.
