Micromax has already confirmed that it will launch one or more Windows Phone handsets sometime this year, but the Indian company has not unveiled when exactly they will be available for purchase in India.

According to a report that appeared last week, the Indian OEM was expected to launch a high-end Windows Phone 8.1 handset powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone was slated for release during July for a price of around Rs 23 – 25k ($390 / €285 or $420 / €310) outright.

However, @Leakster, the source of the information, has recently cleared things up by saying that the Windows Phone handset and the Qualcomm-based high-end smartphone are two different devices.

This means that Windows Phone fans in India will most certainly not be able to purchase a high-end smartphone powered by their favorite mobile platform which would be provided by Micromax.

The good news is that Micromax will indeed launch a Windows Phone 8.1 handset in July, though we suspect that it will be an entry-level or mid-range smartphone rather than a high-end one.

No details on the phone’s specs sheet have been leaked yet, but we expect more info to emerge in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more on this one.
