India's smartphone market is one of the largest in the world with a great potential when it comes to budget-friendly handsets. This is one of the reasons Google has decided to debut its Android One program in India.

Native handset makers rule the Android smartphone market in India and Micromax is a very important brand that launches new handsets on a weekly basis.

However, there aren't many Indian companies that offer major software updates for their devices and the number of smartphones powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop is negligible for the moment.

Micromax tried to offer OS updates for some of its most popular smartphones in the past, but failed to achieve this completely. Obviously, many people were disappointed by Micromax's promises that the company did not keep.

Even so, given the fact that Micromax is one of top 5 Android handset makers in India, it makes sense that the company would want to continue to sell its smartphones in the country hence new promises for those who already bought one.

We have yet to learn which Canvas series phone will get the update next

Today, a Micromax spokesperson confirmed the company’s plans to release Android 5.0 Lollipop for some of the most recent Canvas series smartphones launched in the country.

The first smartphone to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be Canvas Xpress, but the device will soon be followed by others which haven't been named yet.

Micromax Canvas Xpress users will receive the update beginning today, so those who own it might want to check for Lollipop on their devices.

“As a brand, we are committed to keep our customers delighted with best in class technologies and experience. Riding on the same thought, we are today rolling out the Android L update with Canvas Xpress, making the overall user experience more efficient and seamless.

“Micromax thrives on consumer centricity and that is clearly visible through the company’s continued growth trajectory and high recall in consumer mind share,” said a Micromax representative.
