Micromax, a well-known Indian OEM, is about to debut yet another Android smartphone in the country, the Canvas XL2. The smartphone is not available for purchase at the moment, but Micromax is expected to put it on sale within the next few days.

Looking at its specs, the Canvas XL2 does not seem to stand out from other mid-range smartphones recently launched in India, which is why we think it will be priced at around Rs 8,000 ($132 / €100) outright.

Obviously, there’s no way to confirm the phone’s price yet, as Micromax did not attach one to the listing on its website. Judging by its specs though it shouldn’t be more expensive than what we speculated.

Anyway, let’s see what the Canvas XL2 has to offer in terms of specs. If you are to purchase the smartphone, then you should know that it ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.

Normally, this wouldn’t be such a big deal, but considering Micromax doesn’t offer software upgrades for its products or does so only rarely, the fact that Canvas XL2 runs one of the latest versions of Android is an important aspect.

When it comes to hardware, Micromax Canvas XL2 doesn’t have any surprises for us. It packs a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6592M processor, a Mali 400 graphics processing unit, and 1GB of RAM.

We would have expected the smartphone to come with 8GB of internal memory, but Micromax decided to go with only 4GB. Nevertheless, owners will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

Canvas XL2 does not feature an impressive camera on the back; instead it packs a standard 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash and video recording. There’s also a secondary VGA camera on the front for video calls and selfies.

None of the features mentioned earlier could be highlighted as the phone’s strong points. So, what exactly could make you purchase the handset other than the possible low price?

We think that the 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution could be the phone’s main selling point.

Aside from that, Micromax Canvas XL2 offers pretty standard features, such as dual-SIM capability, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS with A-GPS support, as well as 3.5mm audio jack FM Radio and 2500 mAh battery.

Do you think Micromax’s next Canvas smartphone has what it takes to be successful on the Indian market, which is oversaturated with similar products? Let us know in the comments section.
