Micromax's first waterproof smartphone, the Canvas Splash leaked over the weekend, but aside from the press render of the device, no other details have been available until today.

Indian blog site Mobigyaan reports that Micromax Canvas Splash will be available in India soon for around Rs 12,000 outright, which is about $195 or €140.

The smartphone is also expected to sport a decent 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution.

On the back, it will pack a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash and autofocus, while in the front there will be a VGA camera for video calls.

Micromax Canvas Splash will be equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor, complemented by 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

Obviously, the phone's main selling point would be the fact that it is IP67 certified, making it water- and dust-proof. Aside from that, the phone's specs suggest that this is an entry-level smartphone.

The Canvas Splash should withstand up to 30 minutes under 1 meter of water, thanks to its IP67 certification, but that has yet to be confirmed when the smartphone goes official.

It is also worth mentioning that Micromax Canvas Splash offers dual-SIM support and a 1760 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

The bad news is Micromax's waterproof smartphone is said to ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is way below what we have expected.

Most Android smartphones launched in India by native OEMs are powered by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but the Canvas Splash seems to be a relic before it even get released on the market.

We will keep an eye out for more details on Micromax's waterproof smartphone availability and price tag, so stay tuned.
