Micromax teased a new launch event for April 21, and rumors had it that the Indian company might launch another high-end smartphone.

However, it looks like Micromax had something else in mind and announced the upcoming availability of the Canvas Spark, a new budget-friendly handset.

The good news is Micromax Canvas Spark will be available for just Rs 4,999 ($80 / €75) outright in the coming days. According to the Indian company, the handset will only be available for purchase through major retailer Snapdeal.

Customers will be able to register at Snapdeal from April 22 for the first flash sale of the smartphone, which is set for April 29.

Even though this is a budget-friendly smartphone, Micromax included something that could make customers pick the Canvas Spark over other handsets in the same price range.

The phone is powered by a quad-core CPU and 1GB RAM

The Canvas Spark ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system out of the box, which is something rare among low-end smartphones launched in India these days.

The rest of the smartphone's specs are pretty decent as well. Obviously, you shouldn't expect anything out of the ordinary since this is a cheap handset.

However, you will probably be happy to learn that the Canvas Spark is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MTK6582M processor, accompanied by 1GB of RAM.

On the back, the device features an 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while on the front there's a secondary 2-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

There are also 8GB of storage inside, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot. As expected, Micromax Canvas Spark offers dual-SIM support, as well as other connectivity options including 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS with AGPS.

Micromax Canvas Spark is only 8.5mm thin and weighs 134g (battery included). It's also worth mentioning that the smartphone is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery.
