The highly anticipated Micromax Canvas MAd Android smartphone teased by the Indian OEM a while ago has just been officially introduced in India.

The Canvas MAd is unique in the fact that it allows users to get paid for watching advertisements. According to Micromax, owners who watch ads will get rewarded with points that can be used for paying their phone bills and prepaid balance credits.

Micromax has also confirmed that the Canvas MAd can be purchased for only Rs 8,490 outright, which is about $140 or €100. The smartphone should soon be available for purchase at major retailers across the country.

It is also worth mentioning that the Canvas MAd will ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, along with lots of useful apps and services such as: BBM, Opera Mini, MAd About Advertising, Kingsoft Office and many more.

It also packs a 1.2GHz quad-core processor provided by MediaTek. On the inside, the smartphone features 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

In addition, Micromax Canvas MAd sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution. On the back, the smartphone packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front, there’s a secondary 5-megapixel camera as well.

It doesn’t seem to feature dual-SIM support, but it’s powered by a high-capacity 1800 mAh battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 150 hours of standby time or up to 5 hours of talk time.

“With the launch of Micromax MAd, we aim to create a powerful medium to interact, engage, entertain and connect with the consumers by lending them our ears to voice their areas of interest, preferences and incentivizing it for them through reward.

“This service would provide a high engagement communication channel for the brands to break away from the clutter,” said Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax.
