It's a small upgrade over the previous model launched last month

Indian OEM Micromax launched one of its most popular mid-range Android smartphones last month, the Canvas Doodle 3. Unfortunately, fans of the brand were a bit disappointed by the phone’s hardware specs, which were not on par with the price the company was asking for the device.

For those out of the loop, Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 made it to shelves in late April for Rs 8,500 ($145 / €105) outright. The smartphone is still powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box though Micromax is expected to upgrade this device to KitKat in the coming months.

Obviously, nothing is certain with Micromax, as the Indian company announced many times that some of its smartphones will eventually receive the long-awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, but that has yet to happen.

Anyway, the Canvas Doodle 3 should have been a decent mid-range Android smartphone if not for the fact that it was equipped with only 512MB of RAM.

Even though the smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6572 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB would have helped users a lot.

Well, it appears that Micromax finally acknowledged the mistake it made and silently released an improved version of Canvas Doodle 3.

Keep in mind, though, that aside from the fact that it comes with 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB, the smartphone does not have any other improvements over the older model.

Those who wish to purchase the new version of Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 can do so via Flipkart for Rs 8,778 ($150 / €110), which is not exactly what we have expected considering the phone’s other specs.

Speaking of which, the Canvas Doodle 3 offers dual-SIM support and boasts a huge 6-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) resolution.

On the back, the mid-range smartphone is equipped with a 5-megapixel photo snapper that features autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) recording, while in the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

Even though it comes with only 4GB of internal memory, users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card. It also offers 3G HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS support.

Last but not least, the Canvas Doodle 3 with 1GB of RAM is powered by a 2500 mAh battery, which should provide up to 260 hours of standby time or up to 9 hours of talk time.
