Indian OEM Micromax has just announced the upcoming availability of its next smartphone in the Doodle series of affordable handsets, the Canvas Doodle 3.

Micromax teased the smartphone a few days ago, but did not share any details on the Canvas Doodle 3’s availability, price tag or specs sheet.

However, we have been able to get some inside info that unveiled the smartphone’s price and some of the technical specifications. The details were coming from a retail box, so we assumed that they were 100% legit.

Today, the Indian company has announced that the Canvas Doodle 3 will be available for purchase in India beginning April 25 for only Rs 8,500 outright, which is about $140 or €100.

According to fonearena, Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 will come in both White and Blue color options and it will include unlimited access to BigFlix for 6 months.

As we reported a few days ago, customers who purchase the latest Doodle smartphone will also receive a free magnetic flip cover. Keep in mind that Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 is likely to go on sale on the Indian company’s webstore, but also via some major online retailers across the country.

The most appealing feature of the budget-friendly Canvas Doodle 3 is the 6-inch FWVGA capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution.

Aside from that, it’s also worth mentioning that the phablet offers dual-SIM (Dual Standby) support, as well as various connectivity options, including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS with A-GPS support.

Hardware-wise, Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 has been confirmed to come equipped with a 1.3GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572 processor inside, along with 512MB of Ram and 4GB of internal memory.

MicroSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB) is included as well. The smartphone also packs a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and video recording, but also a VGA camera in the front for video calls.

It is also worth mentioning that Micromax Canvas Doodle 3 will be powered by a high-capacity 2500 mAh battery. Other highlights of the phablet include FM Radio 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB port.

The bad news is that the phablet will ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system onboard, which is rather old even for an affordable smartphone. Hopefully, Micromax will offer a KitKat upgrade in the future, but there is no confirmation yet.

“At Micromax, we have always aimed to offer something new and different with every product launch with affordable innovation being our core DNA. The Canvas Doodle 3 further reinforces our commitment to empower our consumers with larger screen to help them express their imagination in a more creative way like never before. This is complemented by an entire eco-system of applications,” said Shubhodip Pal, CMO, Micromax.
