Today, handset vendor Micromax finally made the Canvas 4 smartphone official in India, during a press event that was streamed live, but which is now over.

The phone maker teased the device a few times before, and even put it on pre-order about two weeks ago, without even offering details on hardware specs and pricing, but has seen great demand for it right from the beginning.

Running under Google’s Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system, the new smartphone comes as an appealing upgrade over its predecessors, yet many users are already disappointed by its hardware specs.

Micromax Canvas 4 features only a 5-inch 720p touchscreen display and not a full HD 1080p one as many might have expected, and also sports only 1GB of RAM, instead of 2GB, as most high-end handsets do today.

However, it still has a 13-megapixel photo snapper with LED Flash, image stabilization and 1080p video recording that was previously rumored for its back side, as well as a 5MP front camera for video calling.

Also packing 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS and a 2000 mAh battery, the new smartphone lands on the market with Dual-SIM capabilities, paired with dual-standby functionality.

Furthermore, it includes a series of innovative features, such as ultra-sensitive touch so that users could operate it even with gloves, along with a new unlocking capability, and enhanced multitasking, enabling users to play a video in a small window on the screen while doing something else.

Micromax Canvas 4 A210 also sports an eye-tracking technology that allows it to pause a video when the user turns their eyes away from the screen. Furthermore, the aluminum stripe around the phone's body works as an antenna.

Micromax confirmed that the new Canvas 4 will arrive in India in a week, featuring a price tag of INR 17,999 ($295 / €230). A free touch cover worth INR 3,000 ($49 / €38) will also be included in the package.

Those who pre-ordered the smartphone will be the first to receive it, and Micromax even called some enthusiasts to the press event to hand them the device today.
