Yesterday was an important day for Indian company Micromax, but also for Android fans hunting for bargains. It was the day Micromax A116 Canvas HD was launched in India and also the day the smartphone disappeared from shelves.
Given the phone’s low price and high-end features, the smartphone was sold out in 15 minutes after it went on sale at Snapdeal.
Micromax A116 Canvas HD is available at a promotional price of only Rs 13,990 ($260/€190), which is about 20% lower than the suggested retail price of Rs 17,499 ($325/€240).
We were wondering yesterday why Micromax did not make the smartphone available from all leading retailers across the country and we got our answer the moment the device was sold out.
The Indian company did not have enough stock to supply other retailers, so, as AndroidOS points out, made a deal with Snapdeal to distribute the A116 Canvas HD through its channels.
After Micromax A116 Canvas HD depleted in 15 minutes, we thought it would take some time until the Indian company will refresh its stock. Luckily, it only took several hours as the phone is now back in stock at Snapdeal. Check it out here.
It appears that Micromax has just pulled a marketing stunt in order to increase the hype around its phablet even more. It will be interesting to see how long it will take for the phone to be sold out again.
For those unfamiliar with Micromax A116 Canvas HD’s main features, the smartphone ships with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box and packs 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor.
It offers dual-SIM capability and a huge 5-inch IPS HD (720 x 1280 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display. There’s also an impressive 8-megapixel rear camera with flash and autofocus, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
UPDATE: It looks like Snapdeal continues to take orders for Micromax A116 Canvas HD, but all orders are now expected to be dispatched in 21 business days. You might want to keep that into consideration before ordering one.
