Indian handset maker Micromax has just released its first “phablet,” the A110 Superfone Canvas 2.

The smartphone features a large 5-inch display and comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform out of the box.

Customers who wish to purchase the 5-inch smartphone can do so via Indian retailer Saholic for only Rs 9,999 (185 USD or 145 EUR) outright. The A110 Superfone Canvas 2 is available in two color options: black and white.

Although the smartphone’s suggested retail price is Rs 14,999 (275 USD or 215 EUR), the handset maker decided to offer it on discount, probably for a limited time.

For the time being, Saholic is the only authorized reseller to offer the Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas 2 smartphone, but additional retailer may start selling in it as well in the following days.

The 5-inch display is one of the phone’s strong points, but also one of its downsides, as the TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen only supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

According to Micromax, the display features in-plane switching for improved viewing angle and color reproduction.

Furthermore, the phablet is equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, but there are no details on the amount of storage and RAM. However, we do know the smartphone comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

On the back, the device packs an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and LED flash, while in the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

Other highlights of the phone include: GPRS, EDGE and 3G connectivity, along with Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and microUSB 2.0.

Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas 2 drains energy from a high-capacity 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery, which should provide up to 5 hours of talk time or up to 7 days of standby time.
