Indian mobile phone maker Micromax is reportedly preparing the release of a new large Android-based smartphone, one that will allegedly land on shelves under the name of Micromax A108, and which has just been detailed for a bit.

The device will allegedly sport a 5.5-inch touchscreen display, while expected to include a quad-core processor inside, thus still capable of pretty decent performance capabilities.

According to a recent article on gadgetstouse, the yet unannounced smartphone will be released as a budget device, at least this is what its model number suggests.

Apparently, over 10,000 Micromax A108 units have been already shipped to India, which suggests that the handset might become official in the near future.

Unfortunately, no specific details on the hardware capabilities of the yet unannounced mobile phone have been provided as of now but, as mentioned above, a quad-core processor inside it appears to be a safe bet.

Additionally, we might see the handset capable of delivering a resolution of up to 720p on the aforementioned 5.5-inch touchscreen display (it will certainly prove an appealing product is packing an HD screen).

The handset might also sport a 5MP or an 8MP camera on the back, which should be paired with a VGA front camera for making video calls while on the go.

We should also see the Micromax A108 announced with all of the usual connectivity capabilities inside, such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS receiver, though 4G LTE might not be included in the mix.

As for the mobile operating system loaded on top of the new device, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS iteration appears to be the main candidate, yet an official confirmation on this has yet to be provided.

Over the past several months, Microsoft has released a wide range of new devices in India, in an attempt to grab as much market share as possible in the country.

Of course, it is already the most popular local handset vendor there, but its main focus is growth, and new handsets are expected to help it in its quest.

We should also note that, while most of the smartphones that Micromax brought to shelves in India lately run under Android, the company also launched Windows Phone devices.

Moving forth, we should expect that vendor to announce even more Windows Phone devices, though its main focus will certainly remain on releasing Android-based products.

Hopefully, more info on what the aforementioned Micromax A108 has to offer will emerge in the not-too-distant future, so keep an eye on this space for updates.
