Developed in collaboration with Foxlink

Samsung unveiled to the world its MBP200 micro-projector phone, which is expected to come to the market in various European countries, and has already become available in Germany, yet it seems that other phone makers are about to make the same move. Moreover, the news also points towards a possible availability of the new devices before the end of the ongoing year, though there are no exact details as to which markets will receive said devices.

According to a recent article on DigiTimes, the micro-projectors that will be included in the upcoming handsets come from the Taiwan-based company Foxlink. It seems that the manufacturer already started the development of the parts, and it is working on them in collaboration with “a handset client from Europe,” the news site says, citing sources with Taiwan handset makers.

The development process seems to be in the final stages, as samples of the projectors are reported to have already been sent to the company's clients for validation. In case all goes well, the first shipments might be recorded as soon as the fourth quarter of the ongoing year, the aforementioned sources supposedly stated.

The news story on DigiTimes goes as follows: “International brand vendors, including Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Apple, reportedly all plan to launch handsets with built-in micro-projectors by the end of this year, indicated the sources, adding that Foxlink is likely to benefit from the emerging trend due to its strong business relationships with Nokia and Apple.”

As many of you might already know, the mini projectors would enable upcoming devices to project images and video on different surfaces, though the resolution won't be a leveraged one, most probably VGA, with images of around 60 inches only in size. If rumors prove true, we might see a new iPhone announced for the market this year, as well as a possible Nseries device from Nokia, both of which would include a built-in micro-projector.
