He is “hooked” on plastic surgery, has friends worried sick

Mickey Rourke, once of the most beautiful men in Hollywood, barely bears any resemblance to his younger self right now. Word has it that his short-lived pro boxing career is to blame for his surgically altered face, but a “saddened” friend claims the reality is actually more disheartening.

Mickey is “hooked” on plastic surgery, simply put. He has been getting a lot of work done starting with the early ‘90s, and even though the results are so visible and not at all good, he is determined to get some more, until he has a brand new face.

“He doesn’t like what he sees in the mirror”

At the beginning of the ‘90s, disappointed with his life as an actor and as a celebrity, Mickey Rourke decided to go into professional boxing. His career didn’t last more than 3 years, but it was enough for him to sustain serious injuries to the face, injuries that left marks that he needed fixed so he could get back to acting.

Or so it was believed until now: a friend tells Page Six that Mickey has been getting surgery since then, but not necessarily because of boxing. He simply wasn’t happy with the way he looked and he believed there was room for improvement.

He still thinks so to this day and is planning more work as we speak.

“He’s having bone taken from his hip grafted onto the roof of his mouth so that he can get new teeth implants,” the friend says. “Doctors are also taking bone from one of his ribs and using it to rebuild his nose.”

Mickey Rourke wants a new face, and as luck would have it, he disposes of the money needed to get it. The sad reality is that he’s “hooked” on plastic surgery, the pal continues. “He wakes up in the morning and looks in the mirror and doesn’t like what he sees,” adds the friend.

A cautionary plastic surgery tale

Whether there’s any truth to the story that Rourke started getting work because of boxing-related facial injuries or because he was too vain and wanted to make himself even more appealing to the ladies, one thing is clear: his story is a cautionary tale for all those going overboard with plastic surgery.

For years and to this day, his name is bound to pop up in any search related to “plastic surgery gone wrong,” with before and after pictures showing the extent of the alterations done to what was once a very beautiful and natural visage.

Mickey Rourke was mocked and bullied for a very long time for his many faces, and the only reason he’s not so anymore (or at least, not to the same extent) is that he’s made a glorious comeback in acting starting with “The Wrestler.”

Right now, his case mostly inspires pity and sadness, because he continues to have many fans who appreciate him for his work. It will be them who will suffer more if he gets yet another new face.
