The famous Disney character every child and adult knows will be 85 years old on Monday. The world's most famous mouse was created by Walt Disney in 1928 and is now celebrating his success with a vintage makeover.

Walt Disney created the famous cartoon character while traveling on a train from New York to Los Angeles. The raw version was called Mortimer, but later on Walt Disney's wife would advise her husband to change the name into Mickey.

Mickey Mouse first appeared on screen in the black-and-white cartoon called “Steamboat Willie” directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Even if at the beginning of his career, Mickey was mostly whistling and singing, he ended up having Walt Disney's voice for the next 20 years, starting with the famous animation movie “The Carnival Kid.”

The world's famous mouse received his first Oscar in 1932 after appearing in no less than 14 movies and being considered by the UN a character who “brings together peoples and cultures from all over the world.” In the '40s, Mickey Mouse appears in his most famous movie “Fantasia,” a musical animation that started a trend of similar animated movies.

Mickey Mouse's character was chosen to be Disney's mascot in 1955, when the studios opened the first themed Walt Disney Park in California. Now, for his 85 birthday, Walt Disney Animation Studios celebrates by releasing a new ground-breaking theatrical short “Get A Horse,” according to The Huffington Post.

In the short film, Mickey Mouse is pictured exactly as he was first created back in 1928's animation, no white gloves, all black and white and with his signature shorts.

“That was when Mickey was still new to the world. Back when there was a brashness to this character and anything seemed possible whenever he appeared on the screen,” Lauren MacMullan, the director of Walt Disney Animation Studios production, explained.
