Unfortunately, we won't be seeing a feminine presence at the US Open this year either - in the Male tournament, I mean.
The only one who could have made that happen, Haitian Michelle Wie didn't quite make the cut in the New Jersey tournament. The beautiful teenager managed an impressive first round, and it seemed that she would become the first women in history - at the young age of 16 (Wow!) - to compete in the greatest Golf Masters in the world.
Well, it wasn't to be though. Even is she started the second round in an impressive way, being 13th in the New Jersey standings, she failed to maintain that position. More, she didn't even make the top 18 - the last position needed to make the US Open cut - falling behind by 5 shots. So, instead of confirming that 68-under-par in the first round, she ended the second with 75-under.
"I had a couple of bad putts when I didn't want them", concluded Wie, who is still one of the best chances women have to see "one of their own" in the biggest male event of the PGA Tour.
But there's no need to despair. A lot of good golfers won't be attending this year's US Open. Among them, one of the past champions in the tournament - Bob Tway. No more than 79 golf players are ready to set the pace for the competition that will get under way in approximately 2 weeks, while another 69 will be decided over qualifying rounds these next weeks.
Here are some more golfers who will be only watching later this month the American competition: John Daly, Trevor Immelman, Jesper Parnevik, Geoff Ogilvy, Aaron Baddeley and Peter Lonard.
