Michelle Trachtenberg says being called “fat” sends the wrong message to her fans

Earlier this year, word on the blogosphere had it that Michelle Trachtenberg, whom we know from “Gossip Girl” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” had gained some weight. The extra pounds were easily noticeable by means of a side by side photo comparison, yet she was – and is – far from being fat. Not that this stopped bloggers from calling her that, which is why she’s now speaking out.

Hollywood Life recently caught up with the star and, among other things, also asked her about how she felt as regards criticism on her weight. Like any other woman, Michelle was upset at being called fat but it’s not just this that bothers her, she says. Because she’s a celebrity, which means there are people out there looking up to her and perhaps even trying to emulate her, having the media calling her “fat” means sending the wrong message to them.

“We got to catch up with actress Michelle Trachtenberg at week two of the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge on Jul. 31 at Blue Star Jets field in Bridgehampton, where she took a break from filming Gossip Girl and openly expressed her frustration over being called fat – and considering how great the actress looked, wearing a flowing floral Rebecca Taylor maxi dress standing in the shade while attendees mingled at the SWAGG Moblie Application lounge, I don’t blame her! ‘Look at me,’ she said while grabbing both sides of her teeny waist, ‘Tell me, where am I fat?’ Honestly, I couldn’t agree with her more!” the e-zine writes.

“I’ve seen her in person at multiple events and Michelle is a thin girl with a nice figure – I think it’s ridiculous that her body is constantly under scrutiny! The down to Earth star said at the end of the day, it’s all about how it effects her fans. ‘It isn’t even about me, it’s about the message it sends to normal girls,’ she said. ‘Some girl in Middle America is gonna pick up [a tabloid] and say, ‘Oh Michelle is my favorite actress and they think she’s fat, what does that say about me?’’ I don’t know about you, but I’m so happy the articulate actress is trying to send a positive message to her fans,” Hollywood Life further writes.

Michelle is not the only young star to speak against this type of image-bullying that may have disastrous consequences in their fans. A little over a year ago, Disney pop star and actress Miley Cyrus had a similar experience when, after saying repeatedly that she was not willing to sacrifice health to be skinny, she was being targeted online for being “fat.” She too spoke about the importance of being healthy, stressing that beauty has nothing to do with a few extra pounds.
