Michelle Obama says she sometimes works out twice a day because she is not allowed to walk

First Lady Michelle Obama has always been in great shape but even she admits that she’s been forced to put in the extra effort as of late because she hardly gets the chance to walk. Mrs. Obama was on The View the other day, which is also where she talked about her husband’s fear of seeing his daughters grow up.

Some of you may remember the frenzy sparked by Mrs. Obama’s wonderfully toned arms, which inspired many women to start being more active and taking better care of themselves.

Since then, she’s constantly been a role model for women all over the world, often speaking out in favor of regular exercise and about the importance of eating right.

On The View, Michelle admits that even she finds it hard to maintain her enviable physical condition because she’s not allowed to walk from point A to point B.

Because she’s driven by car wherever she goes, she’s realized the only way to compensate is to start working out more: today, she crams two workouts a day into her already busy schedule.

“We don’t get to walk much. Don’t feel sorry for me – but we don’t walk as much, because they don’t want you to walk,” the First Lady says on the show (quotes via here).

Walking is, as it’s already common knowledge, one of the best and seemingly effortless means of staying in shape.

Unfortunately, it’s not really that much of an option for the Obamas.

“We can’t walk outside, so the amount of steps that it takes just to stay in shape sometimes requires putting in some extra time,” Mrs. Obama says.

Michelle and Barack Obama work out with the same trainer, Cornell McClellan, who flies in from Chicago to help them out.

He recently revealed in an interview that the Obamas’ fitness goal is to get at least one hour of intense exercise every day but, given their schedules, that they sometimes settle for “only” four times a week.
