Men’s publication FHM has announced its yearly top 100 sexiest women list and the number 1, aka the hottest woman in the whole wide world, is a relative unknown outside of her home country. Her name is Michelle Keegan and she’s a British TV actress and tabloid fixture.

Because she managed to beat the likes of Kate Upton, Beyonce, Jennifer Lawrence and many other more famous beauties to the punch, voices in the blogosphere are crying foul play.

A confusing top 10

For the record, we should note that FHM determines the “winners” based on votes from the public, so if more male readers from the UK voted, that would explain why Keegan ranked so high. However, it seems that many of these too are confused that she won, saying that she did not deserve the title, so her victory must have been rigged.

This is the first time that the 27-year-old actress, known for her appearances on “Coronation Street” and “Ordinary Lives,” got the top spot, but it’s not the first time she makes it in the top 100. In 2013, she ranked fourth, and she came up second last year, so her trajectory was more or less predictable.

As for the other beauties in the rather confusing top 10, they are: glamor girl and occasional actress Kelly Brook lands in at number 10; “Game of Thrones” and “Terminator: Genisys” star Emilia Clarke comes in at 9; “The Only Way Is Essex” star Lucy Mecklenburgh is at 8; “Wolf of Wall Street” actress Margot Robbie is at 7, and pint-sized pop star Ariana Grande makes her debut in the mag at number 6.

Television personality Caroline Flack opens the top 5, followed by Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton at 4, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence at 3 and former reality star turned successful model Kendall Jenner at 2.

Keegan is the hottest, though, the voters have decided.

For the sake of argument, we should note that it’s not just her presence in the chart that’s being contested: many readers argue that Kendall Jenner has no right to be the hottest woman in America, while others say that Emilia Clarke and Jennifer Lawrence should have ranked higher.

Michelle Keegan deserved to win

In a statement to the British media, FHM editor Joe Barnes says that even though their number 1 girl for 2015 is a contested choice, the numbers don’t lie.

“Many congratulations to Michelle on her very worthy win. This year’s 100 Sexiest poll was more keenly contested than ever,” Barnes explains. “We had over a million votes, which was truly incredible. And for me, and the FHM team, it's great to see a hugely talented UK actress take the top spot.”
