Hawaiian golf teenager Michelle Wie has succeeded in conquering the men's golfing Tour. Maybe it has something to do with her beauty - although she is only 16. But more likely, it has to relate to her extraordinary golfing abilities. Even if she's 5 years short of reaching the drinking age in the United States (so she can't celebrate her success having champagne), she already competed in 8 men golf
tournaments this year.
This seems to be the main reason why the European Tour officials have invited her to play in the men's event later this year - September - in the Swiss Alps. If she accepts, and there are almost zero chances of that not happening, Wir could become the second woman to compete in the European Tour. England's Laura Davies had opened the way for women in the competition in 2004, after competing in the ANZ Championsip.
But there's no doubt that the decision came as a result of the spectacular growth on Wie's play in the PGA Tours this year. The young Hawaiian sensation succeeded in making the cut for the SK Telecom Open in South Korea earlier this month, becoming the first woman ever to do that in a men's tournament. She failed to make it all the way though, after finishing on the 35th place, with a disappointing 74 score in the final round.
Even so, what can you ask more of the 16 years old adolescent? With the qualities she possesses and has shown in the last period of time, Wie has certainly something to hope for in the near future. In fact, she already said that she wants to compete in the US Open Men competition this summer, taking that on the top list of priorities.
