Doctors say Michael Schumacher's condition is critical following his operation

In a press conference held at the Grenoble hospital today, December 30, doctors explain the current state of health of former Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher. The people responsible for his treatment have revealed that the former driver has undergone surgery to relieve intra-cranial pressure from a brain hemorrhage, following his skiing accident on Sunday.

Michael is said to have received a brain scan immediately after he arrived at the hospital and then was hurried into operation. Doctors said to be “working one hour to the next” which might suggest that the situation is still developing.

Most of the doctors that spoke during the press conference refused to give any outcome of the situation, saying that they are currently only discussing the treatment. They mentioned that Schumacher is at the moment in an artificial coma and undergoing treatment.

“The brain scan showed a number of pieces of information, some intercranial haematoma (internal bleeding) but also some cerebral contusions (bruising of the brain tissue) and oedema (build-up of fluid). We operated urgently to try to eliminate the haematoma. After the operation we saw that we had been able to eliminate these haematoma but also sadly the appearance of various bilateral lesions,” one of the doctors told reporters.

The former driver is now in intensive care, but his current health state remains critical. It seems that the accident occurred at very high speeds, to a point that his helmet could not fully protect him. “Somebody who would have this kind of accident without a helmet, certainly, he would not have got to here,” stressed one doctor.

The life-threatening accident Michael Schumacher was involved in happened yesterday, while the F1 icon was out skiing with his son in the French Alps, off-piste. There are reports that say Michael hit a rock when he fell on his head. He was rushed to the hospital with what are now considered to be very serious injuries.

Updates will be provided as the story progresses.
