Schumacher gave another interview for the Italian media yesterday. As time goes by, asking him a few questions seems more valuable than ever. After all, one can only do so for another month. This time, though, the German driver focused more on Ferrari’s future than on his own. The reason was simple: he
has no idea what his future will be after Formula One.
"
Are you still asking me about retirement? I really don’t know what I’ll do after leaving the racing world. I told you already that I’ll stay with Ferrari, one way or the other. For the moment, my main focus is winning the remaining races in the championship. You need a lot of concentration to win it, so thinking about anything else has no point for now", said Schumacher.
The 7-times world champion announced his retirement right after his Monza win 2 weekends ago, but stated that he will not leave the racing world for good. More likely, he will continue inside Ferrari’s staff, with Luca di Montezemolo very anxious to offer him a job. And that would mean advising Ferrari’s new champion-to-be, Kimi Raikkonen.
As for the Finn who’s going to take Schumi’s place at Ferrari, the German stated: "
He is very talented, that I can tell you. I don’t think he’ll have many problems adapting, since all the crew here wants to see him as the new world champion. They will all help him and see that he’ll do just fine. They all have common interests, so him winning shouldn’t be a problem".
Nevertheless, the discussion brought Schumacher to China, where he’ll try to get in front of Alonso in the overall standings. "
I don’t think there’s a clear favorite for the race. Neither us, nor Renault are favorites. It all depends on the tyres and the team tactics. We were not very lucky last year, when I crashed out, but we are very competitive now".
"
I have set my goal pretty high these remaining races, and that is to win all of them. Other drivers might get involved in the battle for the first place, but it would be my job to pass them", concluded Schumacher.
