Actor gives thanks for the love and support, hints at something “in return”

Michael Muhney isn’t anything if not a major tease, even if he might not mean it that way. The actor, who was fired from CBS’ “The Young and the Restless,” where he played Adam Newman, last December and who has been the subject of speculation for a possible return for months, just dropped a major hint on his Twitter about it.

Of course, he doesn’t name the show but fans (and some media outlets) are convinced that he can only be talking about it, because he too must be aware of the online frenzy caused by reports that he’d been spotted back on the Y&R set.

Muhney took to his Twitter feed to thank fans who sent him birthday messages. At the same time, he also thanked them for their love and support. “Your continued support & enthusiasm is humbling. You see through the nonsense of life and spread love as your message. Message received!!!!!” he wrote.

“It's a gift to receive so much love on my birthday. Thank u! Here's to hoping this will be a great year for me to give something back! #love,” Muhney continued.

At first sight, this might seem like an “innocent” thank you message, but not few are those who choose to believe differently. That part about this being “a great year for [him] to give something back” could have something to do with unconfirmed reports that producer Jill Farren Phelps has been unable to find a suitable replacement for him for the role of Adam Newman and that, because of it, she’s decided to ask him back.

Ratings for the soap opera have dropped since January, when Muhney’s last episode aired and, while the dent isn’t that big as to cause the demise of the show, it’s big enough to worry bosses, especially since fans show no sign of dropping it: “it” being the backlash against whoever decided Muhney should be fired.

It is said that Phelps is being pressured to come up with a solution to the problem but, at this point, even she has understood that there’s no solving this but by bringing Muhney back.

Characters on soap operas are known to die the most gruesome deaths only to return when it’s convenient for the writers to have them back so, in this sense, no one actually bought that Adam Newman died in that January episode. So, bringing Muhney back wouldn’t be a problem in this sense.

So, when word got out that he’d actually been seen on the “Young and the Restless” set, fans put 2 and 2 together and concluded that it could only be for one thing: Phelps went to him and begged him to come back and, though he initially told her no, he eventually had a change of heart.

This would explain that part about giving back this year, and it would also explain another cryptic tweet of some weeks ago when, asked if he was “back,” he said something along the lines of never having left at all.

The most optimistic fans have already “decided” that they will be seeing Michael Muhney back as Adam Newman on “The Young and the Restless” in 2014 and that all that scandal will finally be water under the bridge. If CBS is smart, it will have listened to what the fans have been saying since December, and it will make this happen for them.
