Screaming fans and eager photographers gathered in Greenwich around a stage set up especially for King of Pop Michael Jackson to announce the live dates for his comeback gig at London’s O2 Arena. “This is it, the final curtain call,” Michael told his fans about the upcoming shows, announcing that these would be the last concerts he would play in London. July 2009 would see the singer perform 10 dates, it was also revealed in the press conference.

“Thank you all. This is it. This is it. I just wanted to say that these will be my final show performances in London. When I say this is it, it really means this is it.” Michael said, visibly pleased with the warm reception, as well as with the many interruptions of the fans who simply couldn’t stop screaming “I love you, Michael,” just like in the days of yore, it has been pointed out. The series of shows itself will be entitled “This Is It,” as reported yesterday, which is why the singer stressed so much that these would be his final live concerts in London.

Despite the fact that fans and media representatives were kept waiting for almost an hour and a half according to several reports in the British online media, when Michael stepped on stage to make his brief announcement, all hell broke loose. There was so much screaming that, for a couple of moments, all that the singer could do was smile and wave at the crowd. By all accounts, this was, indeed, an announcement fans were dying to hear.

“I’ll be performing the songs my fans want to hear.” Michael pointed out. “This is it, I mean this is really it. The final curtain call and I’ll see you in July. And... I love you. I really do. You have to know that. Really from the bottom of my heart. This is it and I’ll see you in July.” the singer added, as fans were screaming “I love you” back. It wasn’t until Michael had left the stage that the organizers of what is being labeled the greatest comeback in musical history specified the exact dates of the shows. “This Is It” kicks off on July 8, but no mention was made as to whether the singer was also planning to perform in other cities – or the US, for that matter.

The common belief is that Michael Jackson and his management chose London for the comeback on account of the fact that his popularity in Europe surpasses by far the success he enjoys in the US right now. Be that as it may, fans all over can’t be but pleased with the recent announcement, it has been noted. To see Michael Jackson himself making the announcement, check out the video below.
