This fall, actor Michael J. Fox returns to television with a new NBC show based loosely on his own story. In a recent interview on the topic cited by the Inquistr, Fox says he couldn’t even imagine himself doing something else.

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991 and, for years, he was out of the spotlight battling the disease and, at the same time, trying to raise awareness on it, to help others in the same situation as himself.

His role on NBC’s “Family Ties,” which is now shooting for a fall premiere date, is his first since 2001.

“Well, I don’t have a choice… But my personal life — you can sit and project out and say, ‘Oh, I’m going to have this and it’s going to be like this and I won’t be able to do that.’ But it’s much more about right now. ‘What can I do right now?’ Right?” Fox says when asked what made him want to come back to TV.

“I just thought, I love to do this and as much as anyone will let me do it and give me their time to do it – I should do it. And so, I’m doing it,” he adds.
