The big screen adaptation of “Macbeth” has been in the works for a long time, but the day when we get to see it for ourselves in theaters is drawing near. Starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, “Macbeth” has finally gotten a first official trailer.

You can see it in full and in HD below: it’s gorgeous, eerie and very violent, promising a film that will do justice to William Shakespeare’s original material.

“Macbeth” opened at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with very positive reviews and sparked talk of a possible nomination for Best Actor at the upcoming Oscars for Fassbender. He’s previously been in the running for “Shame.”

Cotillard was the odd casting choice here because she’s French and her accent was deemed by fans “too thick” to fit in a Shakespeare play adaptation, but based on the first trailer, she’s perfect for the role.

In fact, both leading stars are extremely talented and have an impressive range, which should make this adaptation a compelling watch. Add to this the beautiful cinematography and overall eerie feel, and you get a must-see.

“Macbeth” is directed by Justin Kurzel and is scheduled for theatrical release in the UK in October. There is no US date for it just yet.
