News coming in from the “Ant-Man” project just keeps getting better and better, to the point that it will actually be worth watching in the cinemas. Marvel seems bent to make this project as good, if not better, than other successful franchises like Thor and Iron Man.

It's been officially confirmed that the Hollywood actor Michael Douglas has just accepted to play a part in the movie based on the Marvel superhero known as Ant-Man. Variety obtained the exclusive news that Douglas will be joining the cast of the Edgar Wright movie.

The actor, who has just picked up a Golden Globe Award this weekend for best actor in mini-series or motion picture made for television, was the first choice for the role of retired Ant-Man Henry “Hank” Pym, the man who originally discovered the Pym particles that allow a man to change his shape.

Douglas apparently denied the part at first, but he’s reported to have had a change of heart over the holidays, announcing that he will do the role.

Unsurprisingly, the people involved in the process are very happy with this news, since they hope Michael will be lending some of his credibility to the role and also attract larger numbers of moviegoers in theaters.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige expressed his enthusiasm, “With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves.”

The lead role of Ant-Man has been given to comedic actor Paul Rudd, in a move that experts said was similar to that of casting Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. The studio, together with the director, clearly want to open up new possibilities for the character, which is why they chose a man known for his comedic roles.

“Ant-Man” is set for release on July 31, 2015.
