5 Seconds of Summer guitarist Michael Clifford had a very scary accident on stage over the weekend, as the band performed at the Wembley Arena in London. His head caught on fire and he suffered burns on half his face, as the video below can confirm.
Reports online say that Clifford got a bit too close to the pyrotechnics, which made his hair catch on fire. He put out the flame immediately but, by that time, he’d already been burned badly.
Also in the video, you can hear drummer Ashton Irwin tell the fans that “Michael has hurt himself,” for which reason they would not continue with the show. As it happens, the gig was almost over and the band was doing encores.
On the bright side, Michael was treated for his burns immediately and he is expected to make a full recovery. Shortly after the accident, he posted the photo attached to this post to his Twitter, joking that he looked like the famous villain Two-Face from the Batman comics.
He also apologized to the fans for not being able to finish the show and thanked them for their lovely messages of support. He promised he was ok - and it turned out that this was true, since 5 SOS returned on stage on Sunday for the final gig in the European leg of their tour.
