Michael C. Hall recently announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer and that, thanks to the early diagnosis, he could happily tell his fans that the doctors had told him he was in remission. On Sunday, the “Dexter” star took home a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Drama, but that made rival Bill Paxton so resentful he told friends Hall had won because he played the “cancer card,” as NY Post’s PopWrap says.

Of course, no one near Paxton can actually confirm that he said these things but, unfortunately for him (regardless of whether he said them or not), the camera zoomed in on him right when the winner was announced. He wasn’t it, that much is already known and, apparently upset, Paxton seems to be mouthing something in the vein of “cancer card,” the aforementioned publication says after taking a look at the video that is making the rounds on the Internet (and embedded below).

As it happens, the rumor is already being picked up by several other online media outlets, with more and more saying that they can actually see Paxton mouth the words. “One of The Golden Globes most memorable moments was Michael C. Hall’s victory in the Best Actor, TV Series Drama category for his wonderful work on ‘Dexter.’ Not only was this win long overdue, but the timing was even sweeter following last week’s admission that Michael’s been receiving treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” PopWrap writes.

“However, at least one person in the Shrine Auditorium might have felt that sympathy factored in to Michael’s win, his category rival, Bill Paxton. I’m no lip reader, but it looks suspiciously like the ‘Big Love’ loser says something about ‘the cancer card’ when the camera cuts to him during Michael’s walk to the podium. Horrible douche or misunderstood mumbling?” the same e-zine goes on to ask.

Assuming Paxton did say such a horrible thing, sadly he wouldn’t be the only to have done so. The Moment blog of the New York Times was tweeting the event, somehow missed Hall’s cancer announcement of last week and went on to make fun of his knitted cap. “So sorry that Michael C. Hall has had cancer. Thanks for clarifying why he is wearing a knitted skull cap,” a later tweet read, substituting for a half-hearted apology.
