As he continues to battle cancer, Michael C. Hall is receiving accolade after accolade for his work on Showtime’s critically acclaimed and very popular killer series, “Dexter.” After taking home a Golden Globe for the part, Hall also won a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding actor over the weekend, telling People that the awards season has truly boosted his spirits.

Hall was nominated at the 2010 SAG Awards in the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series category, also for his part on “Dexter,” just like was the case at the Golden Globes a few days ago. A visibly emotional Hall then took to the stage to accept his award, thanking everyone who made his win possible, from producers on the show to the loyal fans who have stuck with it for the past 5 seasons, and saying how this kind of feedback also has an echo in his personal life, making it much easier for him to deal with his disease.

“I’m two-thirds of the way through this treatment that already has this thing in remission. It’s nice in the homestretch to have this kind of shock of positive energy. It’s a celebration,” Hall told People backstage at the awards. As for going public with his condition, he said that too contributed to his feeling better. “I’ve been feeling very well because I made this announcement. Because of these public events, I’ve heard from people I would have not have heard from otherwise,” he said.

However, not everybody was happy with the star going to the media with the announcement that he’d been diagnosed with cancer. At the Golden Globes awards ceremony, when the actor’s name was called and as he was walking to the stage to accept his award, cameras zoomed in on category rival Bill Paxton. He seemed displeased with losing to Hall and appeared to be mouthing something like “the cancer card,” reports in the media said at the time.

“However, at least one person in the Shrine Auditorium might have felt that sympathy factored in to Michael’s win, his category rival, Bill Paxton. I’m no lip reader, but it looks suspiciously like the ‘Big Love’ loser says something about ‘the cancer card’ when the camera cuts to him during Michael’s walk to the podium. Horrible douche or misunderstood mumbling?” PopWrap asked after video of the incident in question surfaced online, as we also told you at the time.
