Explosions are also included

“Transformers” director Michael Bay has been handpicked for what many say is the most fortunate job in the world: direct a commercial for Victoria’s Secret, the company making the gorgeous women’s lingerie. This also means, of course, working with stunning models like Marisa Miller and other girls, all of which are featured in the newly introduced ad, as PopWatch of Entertainment Weekly says.

Fans of the director know that one of the things he’s famous for is his knowing his way around explosions. There’s a reason why they say Bay can’t possibly make a film without having an explosion every few minutes, and the almost 2-minute long Victoria’s Secret ad is no exception.

Aside from having gorgeous girls doing their best bad poses on heavy metal music, Bay doesn’t forget to include an explosion as well, towards the end of the clip. There are also shots hinting of a circus, pool tables, deserts and slo-mo sequences of girls walking in the desert and, of course, plenty of lingerie. However, with all the abundance of colors and images, some fans, especially female ones, are not convinced, saying on dedicated forums that this not an ad for women but for men. Since men are not really the target, the whole ad becomes pointless, they say.

“Michael Bay has directed a Victoria’s Secret commercial. No, that’s not the premise for a Saturday Night Live skit involving enormous robots doing battle while wearing lingerie. Bay, the director of slick, explosion-y mega-hits like ‘Armageddon,’ ‘Pearl Harbor,’ and the ‘Transformers’ films, as well as numerous commercials, brings all the hallmarks of his style to his latest ad for Victoria’s Secret,” PopWatch says, starting from the premise that, indeed, having Bay and Victoria’s Secret in the same sentence is a bit grating at first.

Still, “these aren’t just shots of beautiful women in undergarments. These are shots of beautiful women in undergarments straddling pool tables, being followed by black helicopters, posing in front of a massive fireball, and, for some odd reason possibly having to do with a circus, throwing knives at each other – all assembled with lots of quick cutting and a soundtrack of thudding rock music. Hey, it makes a whole lot more sense than that weird Victoria’s Secret commercial Bob Dylan did a few years back,” PopWatch further says.
