Michael Bay jokes that "Bad Boys 3" will be out in theaters in 2017 for April Fools

A much anticipated piece of news has been revealed by the man himself, Michael Bay, who claims on his website that not only is the “Bad Boys” sequel getting made, but it's actually so close, you can smell it. And to top it off, there's a sequel to the sequel!

Bay has posted an announcement on his own website in which he confirmed that both “Bad Boys 3” and “Bad Boys 4” were going to start production and filming “back-to-back” so that they would be ready for their 2017 and 2018 release dates respectively.

Since talking about the third installment in the “Bad Boys” series has been going on ever since part 2 proved to be a blockbuster, people were naturally excited. The only issue is that the announcement was made on April 1 and has been taken down since, indicating that it was just another red herring.

Bay has been working on some sequels of late, mainly producing the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” remake and he's also known as the King of Remakes, with several franchises under his belt. But this just might be the one that got away, much to everyone's disappointment.

The “official” announcement read “After an exceptionally successful collaboration on “BAD BOYS” and “BAD BOYS 2″ Michael Bay is ready to start pre-production on the third and fourth installments of the ‘Bad Boys’ franchise. The two films will be shot back-to-back and will hit theaters in late summer of 2017 and early summer 2018.”

Giving the news more credibility was a supposed quote from the director himself who praised the main actor of the film “Working with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is something to look forward to. We had a blast working on the first two movies and I’m so fired up to be back working with them again. Our careers have taken us on different paths but it’s time to end with a bang. As its said in ‘Bad Boys 2,’ ‘We ride together, we die together. Bad Boys for life.’”

Finally, the news confirmed that work on the new “Bad Boys” would start just as soon as Bay would tie up his previous obligations with the latest sequel he's working on, “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” indicating the urgency of the situation and the fact that the process was well under way in terms of preparation.

Sadly for everyone involved, as well as fans of the first two films, this could also serve as proof that “Bad Boys” isn't being picked up for another sequel, which is why Bay can afford to joke about it.
