The country is to finally make the most of its wind resources

It recently became public news that Enel Green Power, an Italian company that is in the business of producing and selling green electricity, has begun work on Mexico's first wind farm.

Seeing how this particular country is presumed to be extremely “rich” when it comes to wind power, it should come as no surprise that Enel decided to invest in harvesting this energy source.

The wind farm is to be built in the state of Oaxaca, and preliminary reports estimate that final construction costs will amount to $160 million (approximately €130 million).

However, this major investment is expected to lead to about 250 million kWh being produced here on a yearly basis, so in the end both Enel and Mexico will find themselves at a gain.

Moreover, it is believed that, by harvesting wind energy with such efficiency, annual CO2 gas emissions will be cut down by 10,000 tones.

Business Green reports that this is not the first time when said green company and the Mexican government work together to help boost this country's renewable energy use.

Thus, Enel already owns three hydro-electric plants in this part of the world, which generate a total of 53 GW.

Apparently, Francesco Starace, the chief executive of Enel Green Power, believes that his company and Mexico will continue to strike such deals in the future, as this benefits both parts.

His exact words were: “We will continue to grow in the country with this technology as well as hydro, a sector in which we are already present in Mexico. We have development plans in this important country, encompassing all the generation technologies we have at our disposal, given the major opportunities we can see in this sector.”

From an environmentalist standpoint, such project are more than welcomed, especially given the fact that green energy sources and sustainable development are two of the “hot topics” of our modern society.
