Iusacell, the only full-CDMA mobile carrier from Mexico, announced that it now provides roaming services across China, just in time for the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games that will debut on the 8th of August.

The services are offered together with Aicent, Inc., a California-based company, which deployed its CRX (CDMA Roaming eXchange) solution, allowing Mexican users to travel to the Olympics and remain connected via their Iusacell handsets.

"Iusacell is the only wireless cellular service provider in Mexico with a 3G CDMA EVDO platform, which lets us offer our subscribers a wide range of telecommunications services, multimedia applications and data transmission. Many Iusacell subscribers will be traveling to Beijing to cheer on the Mexican Olympic team, and it was important to us that while they travel in China they have access to the same services they have come to expect at home. Aicent's CRX service minimized our technical integration yet provided Iusacell the means to offer seamless international data roaming on CDMA networks for our subscribers, in time for the start of the Olympics on August 8," declared Adrian Velasco, director of roaming at Iusacell.

Louie Abonador, Aicent senior director of sales for Central and Latin America, added, "A hallmark of Aicent eXchange services is the ease of deployment, insulating carriers and mobile operators from the complexities of international peering arrangements and interconnects. With our extensive peering arrangements and interconnects, Aicent's eXchange services make it possible for any telecom operator to offer subscribers global roaming, as well as to create new revenue stream by opening their own networks for roaming by subscribers of other Aicent customers. In addition to China, Iusacell will be using Aicent CRX services to extend data roaming in other regions of the world."

Currently serving around 4 million customers, Iusacell is the third largest mobile carrier in Mexico. The first two, Telcel and Movistar, mainly offer GSM and HSDPA services; that is why Iusacell is the leading Mexican CDMA operator.
