Metropolitan Museum of Art Red Carpet Fashion

- The stars showed off their fashion choices at the exclusive gala

By: Monica Gaza, Life & Style Editor

Every year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art chooses a different, spectacular theme for its Spring exhibit, and this year it was all about superheroes. "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" featured over 70 ensembles designed by Balenciaga, Armani, Alexander McQueen, Jeremy Scott, Pierre Cardin and even Nike, which all aim to explore the way superheroes – with their iconic suits made up of mysterious masks, ravishing capes and stunning bodysuits – have been featured in and have shaped the world of fashion. The exhibit – which is co-chaired by Giorgio Armani, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour – hosted its glamorous accompanying gala (sometimes known as the Oscars of the fashion industry) last night and many of Hollywood's divas put on their best dresses and came out to play.
Here is an overview of who wore what, and feel free to comment and give us your thoughts on the stars’ dress, hair and make-up choices.

Christina Ricci stepped out in a daring red and pink gauzy Givenchy gown, featuring a red satin swimsuit-type bodice and a see-though pale pink veil which left little to the imagination. Kate Bosworth opted for a vintage sequin embroidered dress from Chanel Couture. Purple was one of the most popular choices for the evening – "Desperate Housewives" actress Eva Longoria and Maggie Gyllenhaal both opted for ruffled, purple gowns. Giorgio Armani Privé was the brand of choice for Beyonce andJulia Roberts, while both Katie Holmes and George Clooney's girlfriend Sarah Larson chose to wear vintage Giorgio Armani designs, from the Fall 1993 and Spring 1997 collections, respectively.

David and Victoria Beckham also put in an appearance, with Victoria wearing a crème vintage Giorgio Armani beaded see through evening dressing coat cut high up her leg. Mischa Barton wore a taffeta Missoni dress with ruffled shoulders and a jeweled bodice. Tilda Swinton showed off a Prada gown, while Jennifer Connelly opted for Balenciaga. Naomi Watts also looked amazing in a pure white v-neck dress with a bright beaded star under the bustline and pointed details. On the whole, the stars wore pretty low key dresses considering the theme of the evening. The only fashion blunder came from Mischa Barton who opted for a rather unfortunate combination of a fluffy gathered sleeves bodice and long skirt.
