Metroid Prime Pinball is a pinball game based on the extremely popular Metroid series of adventure titles. This title uses the same graphical style and quite a few key plot elements from the Metroid universe, in order to motivate players throughout the story. It was developed by the creators of Mario Pinball Land and Fuse Games exclusively for the Nintendo DS handheld console.
Anyone who has played pinball before can easily guess what are the basic mechanics of this game. It uses the classical accessories, such as flippers, spinners, bumpers, or ramps, all of which are cleverly put together in order to allow a fun journey for the ball.
As an innovative new feature added to the regular pinball formula, the tables on which the game takes place are filled with enemies that fire at the ball, an they can only be taken out by being hit with it. The touchscreen of the DS is also used in order to nudge the table and avoid nasty situations.
The game was first launched in North America, on October 24, 2005, followed by Australia in the same year, Japan at the beginning of 2006, and last but not least, Europe in June 2007. Metroid Prime Pinball enjoyed quite a lot of critical acclaim, with industry analysts citing the clever use of the elements from the popular adventure game and giving it generally positive reviews.
