A Nintendo game creator has said that the new home console from Nintendo, which has been widely rumored to be in development but has not been confirmed by the hardware maker, will come with the same level of innovation that the unveiling of the Nintendo Wii provided when it was introduced in 2006.

Yoshio Sakamoto, who was the creator of the widely popular Metroid series, has told a Spanish language website that, “At Nintendo we always have the obligation to surprise users with a new game console.”

He added, “We have never done what others have. We prefer to create something new that catches attention, and I think this will continue this time as well. Surely the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open.”

The big rumors is that Nintendo is working on creating a High Definition capable version of the Wii, with more powerful hardware and a bigger hard drive, but the company has not acknowledged any of the rumors.

Satoru Iwata, who is the president of Nintendo, has offered hints that the next home console might incorporate three dimensional gaming capabilities, something that both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 lack at the moment.

Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America, has previously said that Nintendo is not yet interested in launching another home console, probably still satisfied with sales of the Wii and waiting for Sony and Microsoft to actually pose a threat before it makes an announcement.

At the moment Nintendo is working on the 3DS, a new handheld that will offer full 3D gaming without the use of any glasses.

The device is set to be launched during the fall on the Japanese market and in spring 2011 in Europe and North America and a price point has not yet been set.
