MetroPCS Communications, Inc. announced the launch of its first BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM). The handset offers users a full-QWERTY keyboard, as well as advanced multimedia capabilities, while also enabling them to stay connected at all times with other people or to get the information they need most.

Along with BlackBerry Curve 8330, MetroPCS also announced the introduction of two new plans to support the device. The first of them is a $50 personal rate plan that provides users with flat rate, unlimited talk, text, web browsing and MMS, as well as with access to BlackBerry email via BlackBerry Internet Service. In addition, a supplementary $10 per month would provide enterprise customers with the same unlimited plan features on BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

MetroPCS also stated that it was the first wireless carrier in the US to offer an unlimited, no signed contract, flat rate plan for BlackBerry services at this price. Users would be able to save over $550 with these data plans when compared to the BlackBerry services offered by other operators. The BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone is available for purchase in the following MetroPCS markets starting this week: Greater Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento.

“Today’s consumers are driven by value, performance and convenience and MetroPCS is extremely pleased to offer consumers a product that will allow the ultimate wireless experience,” said Roger D. Linquist, president and chief executive officer of MetroPCS. “This new addition to our handset lineup allows our subscribers to enjoy the advanced features and convenience they desire in a smartphone with an unlimited, flat-rate service that beats the competition in price.”

The operator also announced that the BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone would become available for purchase at all Best Buy stores in the markets announced above, as well as with select MetroPCS authorized dealers and online on the company's website.
