MetroPCS Communications, Inc., the leading wireless carrier that offers unlimited, flat-rate, no signed contract services, announced recently the launch of a new mobile phone for its subscribers, the Samsung Code. The new handset is the first smartphone powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system the carrier adds to its offering, and is set to provide a wide range of productivity and organization capabilities to those who are on the go most of the time.

The Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system on MetroPCS’ Samsung Code comes with the entire Microsoft suite of tools, such as contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, voice recorder and Windows Live features. Moreover, the handset also sports the optional WizPro interface that enables users to perform customizations for their home screen, as well as to create shortcuts to the apps and features they use the most, including messages, calendar appointments and more.

“We are excited to add another smartphone to our lineup of the latest handsets,” said Roger D. Linquist, president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of MetroPCS. “In a time when consumers want more from a phone than simply to talk or text, our customers will be able to take full advantage of the Samsung Code’s advanced features and services that will give them an enriched wireless experience. This is just another example of how MetroPCS is providing customers with more, all while maintaining the economical unlimited, flat-rate service that they can expect from MetroPCS.”

Samsung Code also sports a QWERTY keyboard, a 2.0-megapixel photo snapper, Stereo Bluetooth capabilities, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, email and messaging capabilities, a full HTML Web browser, Microsoft Outlook Mobile and ActiveSync support for phone syncing, and Handmark’s Windows Mobile application store. “Samsung Mobile is excited to launch its first Windows Mobile 6.1 powered smartphone to MetroPCS customers,” said Paul Golden, chief marketing officer of Samsung Telecommunications America. “The Samsung Code gives users the ability to balance work and personal communication with a variety of applications and features.”

The new Windows Mobile-powered device is available from MetroPCS at a price tag of $299, and can be purchased from any MetroPCS company-owned retail locations and authorized dealers.

What a disappointment that this phone uses Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform. Samsung has tried to cover over it, by putting its WizPro interface on top, but once you're past that, and delve into the operating system, you find you really need to use a stylus pen to use it accurately.

I'm more interested in Samsung's other phones that use Google's Android operating system. There's already the entry-level Samsung i7500 which runs on Android. Soon there'll be the high-end i5700 Spica, also running Android. At least the Android phones will have a clean interface, with multi-touch all the way through the OS.

I really, really, really hope metroPCS stars releasing android-based phones soon. I love their service & Android will definitely be the ultimate platform to Metro's unlimited everything...
Will keep my eyes open...

People you can say what you want, but when I first joined metroPCS I purchased the Sam Sung Finesse & let me tell you the Samsung Finesse is a good phone for phone calls & email & even messaging, but anything outside of that, then the Samsung Finesse s*cks, so after I heard about the samsung code with windows mobile 6.1 I then went to do a google search on this phone & I read a lot & I then watch a vid on youtube & I fell in love with this Samsung Code, so the next day I went & purchased the Samsung Code & turned off my Samsung Finesse & I am very happy with the Samsung Code, because from the very beginning I wanted to be able to add apps to get new features & this Samsung Code does it & does it well. I purchased the Kinoma Play App & let me tell you this app does everything you could want. It adds youtube, movies,HBO,on line videos for any & everything,live365,shoutcast,Last FM,Audible,A Lot of video podcast & Audio Podcast (So Mant I could not begin to even just look at them all),rss feeds, sms,Email,Outlook, offive,Adobe PDF Reader, all types of music,Internet Radio of akk kinds & companies, live content, gas prices, flight & stock info, picture sites to search & look at pics like Flickr/Google Images,Picasa,Idisk,Box.net,Google Reader,Facebook,Twitter, orb (to watch your video or pics or listen to your files on any computer with (Orb) installed & the list goes on (Oh By the way that was just one app(totally worth the money that I payed for it. Not to mention over 4 different app stores to pick from (Kinoma Play app store/MetroPCS app store/Samsung app store/Google app store) & not to mention the Apps for Windoes Mobile that is floating around on site upon site-just do a google search & you will find a ton of apps & even some for free. On this phone I can just about do what ever I do on my computers which is cool as heck to me. So do what you want to, but I love this new Samsung Code MetroPCS Smart PHone because I can do anything on it & I mean anything. This thing even has h*ck & tweak Apps,Windows media Player,Video Trailers & Movie Listings in your Area or where ever you go,Mobile Flash Player lite,Java,Metro 411,Biz & People Look Up with GPS directions built in to get direction to the biz or Person you found & even the phone number to call right that moment. The Interface was kind of hard to figure out in the beginning & I know probably because I am sorta a smart phone newb, when I had cell phones it was back in the day when they only did phone calls, so now I am like over excited even if to others they have been doing it for years. With this phone I feel like a kid in a candy store. You can even change the interface to suit your own needs with the task manger which lets you change everything up to your liking, but I for one am purchasing a app to do that called (elecont quick desktop) This thing let's you check SMart PHone system resources & it even lets you control the memory/cpu & battery priority, but I am not messing with that, I am more interested in the resource widget that lets me see what's going on. I am telling you this thing can do just about anything your PC can do & just think using MetroPCS to do it especially in this hard money time in this world, heck to me MetroPCS is a God Sent because they make the cellphone affordable for us not Steve Jobs FanBoy People with tons of money to throw away towards the iPhone & the thiefs ATT. I love MetroPCS for there service that never goes down & unlike my brother with an iPhone I can make phone calls with my Samsung Code inside my house & any structure so far, I have never had any trouble yet. Go out & purchase the Samsung Code on MetroPCS I promise you will not be sorry. Good Luck!

I have been been searching for a new cell phone for a few months now. I had an IPhone, but I lot the ATT service and then I lost the phone. I've lwys had a Metropcs phone for calls, but they never had any phones worthy of replacing my IPhone, but when I heard that this Samsung Code actually has Adobe Flash installed (omething that the IPhone doesn"t support) I was sold. I will be coppin' me one with my next check. By the way, are there any forums on-line for this phone?

Cye, thank you for your honesty. That was by far the best review I have read on The Samsung Code. I am getting mine for CHRISTmas, yay! Only 4 days to go to open my present! I heard such great reviews on this phone too. I have been researching phones for months now and it ended up between The Code and The Finesse and I decided it is worth giving up the touch phone for great apps and yes, flash! I believe as you do that why spend crazy amounts of money for phones that have outrageous monthly plans... MetroPCS has the best monthly unlimited cost per month by far! Thanks again for confirmation on my decision to go for The Samsung Code. Your review was very detailed and well explained. Thank you and I hope you have a great holiday... enjoy your Code; I know I will!!!

Luis, I have researched both The Samsung Code and The Samsung Finesse and in my opinion, the Finesse is good if you just want to TOUCH your way through but as for apps, the Code has ability for much more and also runs like a computer since it uses WindowsMobile. The Code also can play youtube videos and the Finesse cannot. For better production, I would certainly go with The Code. Good luck with your decision and enjoy your phone whichever one you choose to purchase....
