Windows Live, Microsoft’s online set of services, is getting through a major makeover, aimed at bringing it in line with the upcoming Windows 8 platform.

Microsoft has been already rumored to plan slapping Windows Live with the Metro UI found in Windows 8 and Windows Phone before it, and it seems that things have been finally put into motion in this area.

Soon, Windows Live services will change their name to fall in line with Microsoft’s plans for the upcoming platform, and “Windows Live ID” will become “Microsoft account.”

Thus, the screenshots that emerged yesterday on LiveSide.net show the Metro-style makeover of Microsoft profile, providing us with a glimpse of what will soon become common knowledge.

The Microsoft (Windows Live) Profile page now features a minimalistic header, which will be common to all Windows Live services, including SkyDrive and Hotmail.

User’s name will be displayed on the right upper corner, and clicking on it will bring down a menu to show all of the connected accounts.

Moreover, users will be presented with a Settings button, which will get them to the set of options available for the specific service they are using. Additionally, there will be a Messaging button for fast access to the web messenger.

Microsoft also simplified the Profile page, which now shows only profile details such as Contact and Work info, without offering Messenger Social updates as before. The privacy model was modified as well.

What should be noted, however, is the fact that the connected services, such as Facebook or LinkedIn, are still present on the profile page.

Microsoft is also said to plan on adding to the list services such as Twitter, Google, and the Chinese micro-blogging service Sina Weibo.

According to LiveSide, Microsoft might be set to debut the new look for its web services in July this year, the same time when it will put an end to “web activities.”
