Metro Redux developer 4A Games had to smuggle in the devkits for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles due to ongoing political turmoil in the Eastern European country, according to one of its employees.

4A Games impressed a lot of gamers worldwide with Metro: Last Light last year, delivering a high-quality experience on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Since then, the studio has rolled out some fresh DLC for Last Light, while working hard on Metro Redux, a collection of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

While the studio already had the hardware for making the games on PC, it lacked devkits for the PS4 and Xbox One.

According to Global Brand Manager Huw Beynon, the actual act of getting the devkits required smuggling them in travel suitcases, according to an interview with The Escapist.

"Just to give you an idea of how they are working. We have to smuggle dev kits in hand baggage. You can’t send anything by courier to Ukraine, you will be stopped by customs and they will charge you any figure they like."

The development period was also affected by the revolution in Ukraine, as quite a lot of staff members participated in the efforts and firefights that happened in Kiev.
