Metro: Last Light developer 4A Games has confirmed that it's going to release a special update for the first-person shooter on PC in the following days that will allow players to change the field of view (FOV) of the game, even if it might cause a lot of different errors.

Metro: Last Light came out yesterday in North America, and quite a few PC owners have complained of the game's field of view, which is fixed and annoys quite a few of them.

Developer 4A Games has posted a message on the game's Steam forums, explaining why it chose to have a fixed field of view and why changing it requires a lot of work in order to prevent any errors.

"We're aware the community have been asking for a 'Field of View' slider for Metro: Last Light. Unfortunately, this was not as simple a thing to implement as it might appear! The main reason for maintaining a fixed FOV is because we have 3D elements like the watch and weapon ammo that need to remain visible."

"In addition, all the game's first-person cut scenes and cinematics and each and every animation involving Artyom's hands – idle weapon animations, reloads, ladder climbing, melee attacks etc, – were created assuming the same, fixed field of view. Changing the FOV would break all the cut-scenes and animations – you would be able to see inside Artyom's arms, or they would appear to float in the air in front of you. Or worse."

4A Games did try to implement three different FOV presets but it would've consumed a lot of time and affected the game's performance by various degrees.

Even so, the studio has revealed that a new patch will be released in the next few days, that's going to allow players to change the FOV setting directly via the game's configuration files, even if it might cause the aforementioned errors.
