4A Games, developers of the popular first-person shooters Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, have just announced their plans to expand by opening a new studio in Malta.

The company intends to expand its AAA development capabilities by opening another studio in addition to the existing one in Kiev, Ukraine. The decision will prove to be instrumental as far as its upcoming activity goes, because 4A Games also plans to make the future Malta studio its headquarters.

"By basing our new headquarters in Malta, a member state of the EU, 4A Games will be able to better compete on the international stage. Malta offers fantastic incentives for game development, and we are confident 4A Games will be able to attract the very best talent from Ukraine, Malta and beyond," said Dean Sharpe, after joining the board of 4A Games as CEO and head of Business Development.

Key members of the Kiev office will relocate to Malta in order to be a part of the new studio, and 4A Games will continue with recruiting the best talent that both Malta and Ukraine have to offer, as their operations expands.

"This marks the start of a new chapter for 4A Games. We are proud of our achievements as a young studio, and humbled by the response to our output so far. The team is looking forward to this new adventure," said Andrew Prokhorov, co-founder of 4A Games.

The company is currently working on unannounced games within the Metro universe, based on the best-selling novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, as well as on other projects that will be powered by their in-house 4A Engine.
