A new engine will be used

Metal Gear Solid fans certainly received a lot of interesting though very teasing pieces of news during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which took place a few weeks ago. Not one, but two MGS games were announced, in the form of MGS: Rising and MGS: Peace Walker.

Konami, the company that will publish both of these titles, which will be overseen by famous designer Hideo Kojima, is now sharing a few more details on them, more specifically on MGS: Rising. In a recent podcast from the company, the host, Sean Eyestone, revealed that Rising would not be based on the recent MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots, as a new engine had to be developed to “realize this multi-platform goal.”

“We're redoing the engine from scratch, and it's going to look amazing," Eyestone said. “It's going to be a big project like Metal Gear Solid 4. The entire team is serious about making it look as good as possible on every platform.”

For those who don't know, MGS: Rising will appear on the PlayStation 3, keeping the tradition of MGS games, but also on the Xbox 360 and PC platforms, sparking a lot of debate on whether Microsoft paid Konami a very big amount of money.

The podcast host also explained the title a bit. When pronounced in Japanese (Raijin), it is a word play on a mythic local storm god, relating to the name of the main character, Raiden, which means thunder and lightning. Also, for English speakers, Rising means that “it's raising the Metal Gear franchise up to the next step.”

Now that the problem of it being an MGS 4-based title is out of the way, are you excited about MGS: Rising? Leave us a comment with your thoughts.
