After Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker got a delay that the series creator considered a pretty shameful event, saying that, "There is no greater crime as a game developer" than to miss a launch date, Hideo Kojima has now come to reassure us that the title will be an amazing experience that will allow us to "rediscover the fun" of the first MGS games. According to CVG, Kojima spoke to UK's Official PlayStation Magazine and admitted that it was a creative challenge to bring the MGS series from the PlayStation 2 and 3 to Sony's PSP.

When asked about what Rockstar did with its PSP version of the famous Grand Theft Auto franchise, in the form of GTA: Chinatown Wars, Kojima said that, "I am not aiming at old-style gameplay [for Peace Walker]. What I want to do is rediscover the basic fun of what MGS has to offer, and push the limit in a 3D form."

"Most of the staff work on more sophisticated hardware, such as PS3 and you can't really do the same things [on PSP,]" Kojima explained. "As a games designer it is really challenging, because you have to come up with ideas to overcome issues. There are many of these." But that doesn't mean that a PSP edition of the Metal Gear Solid series is going to be a lesser game.

"But there are good things on PSP, too. On the PS3, there was a massive workload, and I didn't have time to come up with new tricks. This time [we] could really concentrate on it. It may be good for the staff, too – stepping down on the technology and wringing out ideas to make the impossible, possible." Which is indeed something that we're missing these days, with the majority of developers focusing on things like shader details and polygon count, instead of offering a solid story with an addictive and immersive gameplay.
