Konami has confirmed that it's going to release Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, the first part in the MGS 5 story, in spring of 2014 for current and next-gen consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One), paving the way for the full-fledged Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Konami and its legendary designer, Hideo Kojima, chose some rather secretive reveals for their upcoming Metal Gear Solid 5 experience, first confirming Ground Zeroes, which acts as a sort of prologue, and then The Phantom Pain, which is the full-fledged experience.

After showing off different videos and screenshots from the two parts of Metal Gear Solid 5, Konami and Kojima have just confirmed that Ground Zeroes is set to debut in spring of 2014, showing off the new Fox Engine as well as the different mechanics that will be present in The Phantom Pain.

"The advanced capabilities of the Fox Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way," Hideo Kojima said in a statement. "There will be a significant difference in what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential. As such, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer."

Ground Zeroes will feature just one event, although fans will be treated to a wide variety of new elements that will surely make up for the short length.

"Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes charts a rescue mission as users infiltrate a Cuban prison camp, and sets in motion a series of events that culminate in the stunning plotlines of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain."

"The prelude showcases key advances to the series made possible by its use of Kojima Productions' Fox Engine, with a large open environment, and missions where time of day and weather have a dynamic effect on the game and its missions."

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is going to appear in spring 2014 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 as a retail release, and on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as a downloadable experience.
